Sports Premium

Sports Premium Funding

The government is providing additional funding of £150 million per year to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding  (provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport)  is allocated to primary schools.

This money is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools. Since September 2013, we have been held to account over how we spend our additional ring-fenced funding. Ofsted will strengthen the coverage of PE and sport so that both schools and inspectors know how sport and PE is assessed in future as part of the school’s overall provision.

As a school we provide a range of sporting opportunities. During the past year pupils have participated competitively in netball, swimming, football and athletics. We also have a range of extra-curricular sporting activities after school that are available for pupils across the school.

At Shalford Primary School we plan to spend our allocation of the Sports Premium Funding in a variety of ways, including:

  • Improving provision of PE and sport.
  • Improve the school’s grounds by building a Trim Trail. Not only will this aim to engage the children in more active play and lunch times, it will also be able to be used across the curriculum.
  • Subsidise Swimming Lessons, so all children have access to these vital life skills.
  • Hire qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers when teaching PE.
  • Purchase of new equipment, resources and repairs.

In this way, our children will gain new skills and experiences and teachers will learn new techniques and knowledge to aid them in teaching sport and PE.

Our long term aim is higher quality P.E lessons and improved learning for all children.
