Welcome to Beech Class

Summer 2 News

Dear Parents,

I hope you all had a lovely half term.

The children really enjoyed their trip to Hanningfield Reservoir last week and were given a great introduction to our topic for the next couple of weeks. This half term we will be focusing on the topic ‘Caring for the Environment’. This topic will teach the children about looking after the environment and will provide them with the skills to think about how we can improve our local community.

Maths- Summer 2

This half term we will finish looking at Co-ordinates and be learning about translating objects. We will also be looking at statistics and creating our own pictograms and bar charts. I will continue to set maths homework which will be given out on a Wednesday and needs to be returned the following Wednesday. Please could you continue to test the children on their times tables homework at home to help them with their daily multiplication tests.

English- Summer 2

Our book focus for the term will be ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ by C.S. Lewis.  The children will create their own imaginary world and will use this to describe a setting in detail. They will go on to write their own diary entry about a visit to their imaginary land.

Spelling homework will continue to be sent home on a Monday to be completed by Friday. This should be practised every day if possible and will also incorporate handwriting practise. I will test them on their spellings on Friday and record their weekly progress.

P.E. in Beech Class will continue to take place on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. On a Tuesday, the children will be learning athletics skills. On Wednesday afternoons we are lucky enough to have a professional sports coach to teach the children outdoor games. Please make sure your child’s P.E kit is in school every day (both indoor and outdoor kits) as although we timetable days, it is possible that these may change on some occasions. Could you please also make sure that your child’s P.E. kit and school uniform is labelled.

Reading homework

We try to read with the children as much as possible in school on a 1:1 basis. This can be supported by you reading with your child at least three times a week at home. Please could you use the question stems given previously and comment on how they responded to these in their homework diaries.

Lastly, I would like to add that if you have any questions or queries about anything please do not hesitate to contact me. I am available after school for appointments. I look forward to working with you and your children this half term.

Miss Farrant
