Embedded Calendar

Autumn Term 2016

Thank you to all of you who have sent postcards into school over the summer holiday.  It has been lovely to hear about what you have been up to and to see pictures of where you have been.

Just a reminder about our forthcoming school trip to Colchester Zoo on Wednesday 28th September.  If you need a new letter please ask at the school office.

Important Information

The children can come into class from 8.30am.  Children who get into school at this time benefit from an extra 1 hour and 40 minutes more learning time per week before the register is taken at 8.50am.  Please make every effort to get your child into school as early as possible to make the most of this learning opportunity.  This time is used to complete next steps in their previous learning and to consolidate key skills across the curriculum.

Homework will be set every Friday and will need to be returned by the following Thursday.  Each week there will be a list of 5 or 10 spellings to learn which will be based on the spelling pattern that has been covered in phonis lessons that week.  There will be a spaces for you to learn practise these 3 times a week using the 'Look, Cover, Write, Check' method and will be tested at the end of the week.  In addition there will be a maths activity which will always be based on the objectives that we have covered in class that week.

As well as weekly homework your child will greatly benefit from reading regularly at home.  We recommend at least 3 times a week but any child who reads 5 or more times will be awarded with 5 house points.  In addition to house points, your child will receive certificates when they reach certain milestones in their reading (10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 150 and 200 reads).  The children also get the opportunity to enjoy reading in Ash Class' BFG themed reading corner regularly in class.

We will have P.E. lessons twice a week.  Ash Class P.E. lessons will be on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Sometimes there will be additional P.E. activities so please make sure that your child has their P.E. kit in school every day.  If your child uses their P.E. kit for a school club and brings it home, please send it back in the next day.

All stationary will be provided so your child will not need to bring a pencil case into school.  Your child will need to bring their book bag into school every day with their reading book and reading record.

I very much look forward to working alongside you this year in ensuring your children enjoy school and make great progress in their learning.  Please come in and see me if you have any questions.

Miss Fletcher
